Our 3M™ XR molded wheel is an aggressive cutting wheel designed to help users achieve superior cutting action without sacrificing a final finish. It may be used for heavy stock removal on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals alike. Combining polyurethane foam with aluminum oxide mineral, 3M™ XR molded wheel is strong and dense. Polyurethane foam takes the shape of a wheel inside a mold. As it hardens, the wheel becomes more tough and dense. The strength and durability of 3M™ XR molded wheel make it a good match for deburring, blending and finishing, and - when run according to recommended operating speeds - it will not heat too quickly. For these reasons, it may be used on heat sensitive metals like stainless steel. Additionally, its strength and durability minimize splintering or fraying when the wheel deburrs edges. Better edge retention and smoother running helps reduce operator fatigue and tackle tough areas. Aluminum oxide mineral is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural abrasives dull more quickly. Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. 3M™ XR molded wheel may be used with inline sanders, bench motors and backstands.
